In the arena, Alfie is soft in the bridle, neck reins beautifully, picks up both leads easily, lopes nice circles, has a big sliding stop, smooth turnarounds, backs willingly, side passes, and stays responsive without being overly sensitive. He’s athletic and handy with all the right buttons — perfect for ranch work, arena, or just having fun. He’s already started roping on both the head and heel side and has the foundation to keep progressing. On the ranch he’s been used gathering cattle, sorting pairs, checking fences, opening gates, and covering all kinds of country. He’s comfortable around livestock and takes the work in stride while staying light and responsive. Out on the trail he’s an absolute pleasure and makes a wonderful companion. Alfie has countless miles under his belt and confidently handles water crossings, bridges, logs, rocky terrain, steep hills, thick brush, and narrow paths. He rides quietly alone or with a group, stays relaxed in new places, and doesn’t get rattled by wildlife, bicycles, dogs, traffic, tractors, ATVs, or big semis. Sure-footed and level-headed, he’s the kind of trail partner you can trust all day long. He’s been exposed to tarps, flags, pool noodles, tires, teeter bridges, dragging objects, and more — approaching everything with curiosity instead of worry. On the ground, Alfie is just as easy to love: easy to catch, stands quietly tied, bathes, clips, saddles without fuss, loads and hauls great, is excellent for the farrier, and is happy in a stall or out in pasture.
