CHUNKY MONKEY 12-Year-Old Dapple Buckskin Gelding • 14.3 Hands Chunky, handsome, handy, and ready to ride. Chunky Monkey is a stout, dappled buckskin gelding with 12 years of experience behind him and the kind of willing, uncomplicated attitude that makes riding enjoyable. At 14.3 hands, he’s a great size, built solid, covered in dapples, and has that beautiful buckskin color with dark points that will get him noticed anywhere he goes. What we really like about Chunky Monkey is how many different riders can enjoy him. From someone newer to riding who wants a steady horse underneath them, to a seasoned rider who appreciates a broke horse with a good handle, he has something to offer both. He doesn’t require you to be an expert to get along with him, but he has enough training and experience that a knowledgeable rider won’t get bored either. This is a gelding that has had a life outside of just riding circles in an arena. He’s been around cattle, traveled through rough country, dealt with traffic, tackled obstacles, and has the miles to understand that his job is to listen to his rider and keep going where he’s pointed. In the arena, Chunky Monkey has a nice handle. He’ll walk, trot and lope both leads, neck reins, backs and has a good stop. Ask him to ride correctly and he will, or drop your hand and let him cruise around. He doesn’t make riding more complicated than it needs to be. Take him outside and he’s right at home. He’s traveled steep hills, narrow trails, rocks, brush, logs and water and is careful about where he puts his feet. He walks out nicely and will ride alone without needing another horse beside him. Put him in a group and he’s comfortable there too. Cattle are nothing new to Chunky Monkey. He’s been used around them and understands how to move through a herd and go where he’s asked. Whether the day involves moving some cows, checking things around the ranch, or heading out for an afternoon trail ride, he’s willing to go do it. We’ve also put him through the things we like our horses to see before they leave here. Flags, tarps, bridges, pool noodles, tires and different obstacles have all been part of his riding. He’s been exposed to traffic, vehicles, dogs and the everyday commotion you can run into outside the arena. He stays sensible and keeps his attention on his rider. Chunky Monkey is just as uncomplicated before and after the ride. He tacks up easily, stands tied, is good for the farrier, and loads and hauls well. Catch him, saddle him and go enjoy him. Those everyday manners are just as important to us as what a horse does once you’re in the saddle. At 12 years old, he has the experience we appreciate in a seasoned gelding and plenty of good years ahead of him. He’s a horse the newer rider can appreciate for his steady nature, while the seasoned horseman can appreciate how broke, versatile and enjoyable he is. And the name? One look at that stout buckskin body and Chunky Monkey just seemed to fit.
