NITE TIME CHONGO

“CHONGO” 2021 AQHA • Red Roan Gelding

If Chongo could choose his favorite place to be, it wouldn’t be the arena, the trail or the ranch. It would simply be wherever YOU are. That’s this horse.

Chongo absolutely adores people, and there is something incredibly special about a horse who genuinely wants to be part of your day. Walk out to get him and he’s happy to see you. Spend time grooming him and he’s content to stand there and soak up the attention. Saddle up and head somewhere he’s never been before, and his attitude is pretty much the same: “Where are we going?”

Chongo is easy to tack up, stands tied quietly and hauls like a dream. He loads up, hauls out to new places and doesn’t come off the trailer worried about being somewhere unfamiliar. Take him to a different arena, haul him out for a trail ride or give him a new job—he settles in and goes about his business. And he is a wonderful trail horse. He’ll head down the trail and let you enjoy the country instead of spending the ride managing your horse. He handles new surroundings sensibly and has the kind of willing attitude that makes you want to load up and take him places. For the newer rider, beginner, older rider or someone coming back to horses after years away, Chongo has that gentle, forgiving nature that can make riding enjoyable again. But don’t mistake gentle for ordinary. This horse has talent.

Chongo rides both Western and English, and he is every bit as enjoyable in English tack. He has done some eventing, has experience over jumps and has spent time doing arena work English. He moves around nicely, carries himself well and looks right at home under an English saddle. Whether you enjoy a day of Western riding or want to put on your English tack and change things up, Chongo has the versatility and experience to make both enjoyable. He works cattle extremely well and enjoys having a job. Pick up on him and you’ll find a nice spin, a good stop and plenty of training underneath you. He handles flags and obstacles, works cows, rides the arena, heads down the trail and is just as comfortable being someone’s confidence builder as he is showing an experienced rider what he knows. That’s one of our favorite things about him.

Chongo doesn’t need you to ride up to his ability—he’s willing to come down to yours. And as your confidence grows, there’s still plenty of horse there to enjoy. Of course, he’s also a gorgeous red roan, and his registered name comes with a pedigree worth mentioning. Registered NITE TIME CHONGO, his papers carry One Time Pepto, Peptoboonsmal and Doc’s Hickory—recognizable performance bloodlines behind a gelding who certainly enjoys working cattle. But Chongo isn’t special because of what’s printed on a piece of paper. He’s special because of how he makes you feel when you’re around him. He’s the horse you look forward to seeing. The one you can haul somewhere new without making a production out of it. The one you can ride Western today, put on your English tack tomorrow, work cattle, tackle obstacles, hit the trail—or just spend an afternoon enjoying.

And when the riding is done, Chongo is just as uncomplicated. He is comfortable living out in a pasture with a herd and gets along well in that setting, but he is equally content being kept in a stall. He ties quietly, is easy to tack up and handles the everyday routine with the same pleasant attitude he brings to his riding. He’s easy to ride, easy to haul, easy to live with—and genuinely enjoyable to have around. And through all of it, Chongo is simply happy to be with you. There are horses that make great rides. Then there are horses that become great friends. We think Chongo has the makings of both.
