Stout, fluffy, golden and about as lovable as they come, Aftershave is the kind of gelding that makes you remember why you wanted a horse in the first place. He’s gentle, friendly, loves attention and genuinely enjoys people. He’s just as happy standing beside you getting loved on as he is saddled up and headed somewhere. And when you do saddle him, you quickly realize this isn’t just a cute palomino with a great personality. Aftershave has a lifetime of experience behind him. He’s been a lesson horse. He’s ridden on a drill team. He’s worked on the ranch, handled cattle, been roped on, hauled to different places and covered countless miles outside. He’s been around enough, seen enough and done enough that you can simply get on and enjoy the horse you have underneath you. His lesson-horse background is one of the things we appreciate most about him. He understands that riders aren’t always perfect. He’s patient, forgiving and willing to take care of his part of the ride without expecting you to be a professional. And talk about comfortable. Aftershave has a nice easy jog and that soft, easy lope you could happily sit all afternoon. He’ll pick up both leads, neck rein, move off your leg, stop, back and turn around. Nothing needs to be made harder than it is with this horse. Just settle into the saddle and go enjoy him. Take him out of the arena and he’s right at home. Head down the road, ride through the hills or spend the day exploring. Aftershave will cross water, work through rocks and brush, step over logs, travel narrow trails and handle steep country. He’ll ride out alone or with company and doesn’t have to dictate where he travels in the group. “Flags, noise, and horses working close together are all familiar territory for him and are just another part of the experience he’s gained over the years. Tarps, bridges, obstacles, traffic, dogs and equipment are all things he’s been around too. And if you have cattle to move or a job that needs doing, don’t let the fluffy exterior fool you. Aftershave knows how to work. He’s been used on the ranch, worked cattle, opened gates, checked country and been roped on. But maybe our favorite part about Aftershave happens when the saddle comes off. He’s still your buddy. He’s easy to catch, loves attention, stands to saddle, ties, bathes, hauls and is good about having his feet handled. He’s the kind you can ride and then spend another half hour standing around scratching on because neither one of you is in much of a hurry to leave. There are horses that are pretty.
