BENEDICT
8-Year-Old Golden Palomino Gelding • 14.3 Hands
Benedict is as golden as they come, and thankfully his disposition matches his color. This classy 8-year-old palomino gelding stands 14.3 hands and is one of those horses that makes riding feel easy. He is gentle, sweet, kind and patient, with the training and handle to be fun for an experienced rider while still being safe and uncomplicated for someone who simply wants to enjoy their horse. Benedict is the kind of horse someone can truly learn on. He is super safe, incredibly patient with new riders and has had a lot of beginners on him. He takes care of his rider, gives them time to figure things out and will absolutely babysit someone who needs a horse they can trust. He is family-horse deluxe—the kind you can feel comfortable putting different levels of riders on and know he is going to take care of them. Benedict is BROKE. He rides soft and collected, has a comfortable jog and an easy lope, picks up his leads, moves off your leg, neck reins and backs willingly. Ask him to turn around and he’ll spin nicely, and when you sit down and ask him to stop, he’ll slide. He has plenty of training when you want to use it, but you certainly don’t have to be a trainer to ride him. What really makes Benedict special is his mind. He is forgiving, quiet and willing. He isn’t looking for something to worry about and doesn’t need to be micromanaged every step of the way. He’s the kind you can saddle up, get on and go enjoy. We’ve put him through all the things—tarps, flags, bridges, pool noodles, tires and obstacles—and Benedict takes them in stride. He has been around traffic, cars, trucks, dogs and everyday commotion and handles it sensibly. Outside the arena, Benedict is just as enjoyable. He rides out alone or in a group and is comfortable leading, following or riding anywhere in between. He doesn’t need to be attached to the horse in front of him and is happy to travel wherever you put him. Take him into the country and he’ll cross water, pick through rocks and brush, step over logs and handle steep or narrow trails. He pays attention to where he puts his feet and makes trail riding something you can actually relax and enjoy. Benedict is also right at home on the ranch. He has been used around cattle, gathering, sorting and moving cattle, opening gates and helping with everyday ranch work. Give him a job and he is happy to do it. And he is just as pleasant when the saddle comes off. Benedict is easy to catch, good to groom and handle, stands tied, bathes, hauls well and is good for the farrier. He is a sweet gelding that enjoys attention and is easy to have around. Benedict has the color that gets your attention, the training that makes him fun, and most importantly, the gentle disposition that makes you want to ride him. Whether you want to work cattle, ride the trails, enjoy the arena or simply have a kind, dependable gelding waiting at the gate, Benedict can fill a lot of shoes. Pretty is easy to find. Pretty, broke, gentle and useful is what makes Benedict special. Located at Longhorn Ranch in Paicines, California. FaceTime and in-person visits are welcome. PPEs are welcome.
