She has a naturally forward way of moving that gives her a nice feel and makes covering ground easy and comfortable, but she stays honest and level headed without being busy or anxious. She likes to travel out and has a willing attitude that makes every ride feel effortless. In the arena Birdie rides smooth, steady, and correct. She carries herself nicely, picks up both leads, has a comfortable stride, a nice stop, backs willingly, and has a turnaround started correctly. She’s soft in her face, moves willingly off your leg, and has enough feel that she’s enjoyable whether you want to quietly cruise or ask her to step up and work. Outside is where Birdie shines. She’s been ridden through hills, rocky terrain, water, brush, trails, and open country and stays confident in new places. She’s been exposed to tarps, flags, bridges, obstacles, traffic, tractors, dogs, wildlife, and everyday ranch life and handles it with a sensible attitude. She isn’t looking for problems — she’d rather just keep going and enjoy the ride. On the ground she’s sweet, easy to catch, ties, bathes, clips, loads, hauls well, and stands quietly for the farrier.
