Gemma is a 5-year-old perlino dappled mare with two striking blue eyes and a look that gets noticed everywhere she goes. She stands right at 15 hands and is built correctly with a balanced, athletic frame. She’s the kind of mare that’s just as pretty standing in the pasture as she is under saddle. What really makes Gemma special is her personality. She’s kind, friendly, and genuinely enjoys being around people. She’s easy to catch, meets you at the gate, and has a quiet, steady way about her. She is not marish and stays consistent in her attitude no matter the day. She’s the same horse every time you pull her out. Gemma is very smart and easy to train. She picks things up quickly and, more importantly, remembers what she learns. You can show her something once and the next time she comes back like she’s been doing it for years. She has a willing mindset and tries to do what’s asked without getting frustrated or nervous. She’s been ridden out on trails, along roads, and on the beach. She handles new things calmly and goes where she’s asked without hesitation. She doesn’t get worked up and has a steady, honest feel to her that makes her enjoyable to ride outside the arena. In the arena, Gemma is soft and naturally carries herself low-headed. She neck reins, has a solid stop, and moves off your hand and leg easily. She transitions smoothly through her walk, trot, and lope and will hold a nice, even circle. She also has a soft, easy reverse and a good foundation that you can take in any direction. On the ground, she’s just as easy. She stands tied quietly, hauls well, and is good for bathing. She’s great for the farrier and handles her feet without any fuss.
