Lilbitofthisandthat “BoomBoom” has been one of our personal horses for awhile now and there’s none we’ve enjoyed owning more than him. He has proved himself to be so useful, consistent, and exuberant. He is the kind of horse that lights up your face when you walk into his stall, saying he is a ‘joy to be around’ just doesn’t do him justice. You will be extremely hard pressed to find a horse that wants to please, wants to work for you, and wants to be around you more than BoomBoom does. It’s a hard decision to let him go, but he is ready to serve a new family.
All that being said, BoomBoom is a super classy, super broke 14.2 11yo AQHA gelding. He is sired by the great High Brow Cat son cutting stallion Boon San, LTE $57,580, sire of earners of over $840k. His dam is an earner of $27,508 and an own daughter of CD Olena.
As a 2 & 3 year old he was trained as a cutter and has been a cow horse ever since. He has a ton of experience in the team sorting pen and has a weekly job pushing and sorting cattle at our local stockyards. He’s flagged a lot of local rodeos, and has pushed all of the steers at our local jackpots. He is no stranger to ranch work either, having pasture roped and doctored cattle a time or two.
Needless to say, BoomBoom is very well broke. He has a true one hand neck rein and effortlessly moves off your seat and leg. This horse is not short on feel and face and rides right in your hand. He has a big stop and is as catty and quick-footed as the best of them. He will pivot, spin, side pass, offer simple changes, and back all day long.
Even with all his fancy buttons, and the experiences under his belt, some of the most fun we’ve had with him was simply going out on the trail. We’ve taken him out all over, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee. This summer we took BoomBoom down to Eminence, MO for the big June trail ride. In short, he was amazing! These are not easy trails by any means and he covered ground like a pro. From very steep rocky inclines to chest deep moving water, he remained unfazed! We had a trip planned to TN in the spring and shortly before Alex broke both the bones in her wrist.. we changed the horse lineup and brought BoomBoom just for her since we knew he was the most rock solid horse we could bring. He took care of her so well, whether we were all out trail riding or messing around in the arena.
As we mentioned before, BoomBoom has the absolute best personality and anyone would be lucky to have him in their barn. He is the first horse to meet you in the pasture and the first horse to press his face against his stall as you walk by! Although he is super in your pocket, he is not lacking in ground manners. He is respectful and quiet enough on the ground, a kid could easily manage taking him out to graze or leading him around the barn. He stands like a statue to be trimmed and shod, and has even been a patient model while Alex has taught people how to shoe and trim. He is easily to clip and bathe and hops on and off the trailer with no fuss every time. BoomBoom is sound with no maintenance required.
