Torgard

Tiny Pony Co. proudly offers Torgard. This gelding is a stunning and unique rose grey dapple, Old-World built Percheron. He is 6 years old and stands an impressive 16.2h. Torgard lives up to his name, which means “protected by thunder”. He has the presence of a war horse with the heart of a best friend. He has been a part of our program (and our family), since early last summer – we have grown to know him well and love him immensely. He has proven to be a calm, confident and kind horse. He thrives on deep connection, we calll him a “people horse” – he prefers to spend time in community with his humans. Torgard has more personality than a lot of folks we know. He is pure entertainment, very cheeky and playful – he will steal the gloves from your pocket, the hat off your head or the flag during training (see video!) His playfulness is nicely balanced with soft, snuggly moments – making him that much more lovable. On the ground, Torgard has learned to be respectful of his leaders personal space. He will stand tied (often napping) all day. He also ground ties nicely. He loves attention – lengthy grooming sessions and long chats take him right to his happy place. Torgard thoroughly enjoys working at liberty and is content to just hang out with his people – no lead rope required. In the saddle, Torgard feels gentle yet confident – as though he understands the importance of protecting his rider. He walks with purpose and pride. His gaits are very smooth for a gelding of his size and he is soft in the ribcage, moving around nicely for a horse of his stature. He is a comfortable ride, picks up the correct leads, side passes, half passes and stops nicely off the seat and “woah”. He isn’t heavy in the bridle and moves well off of leg pressure. He has the strength and stamina to easily carry any rider on an all day adventure. He is the same horse every day you pull him out to work – he puts his head right in the halter, ready to spend time with you – any way you’d like. Take this one anywhere and any which way you want – we believe he was born to hit the trails and that he would excel as a backcountry hunting mount, pack horse or even a mounted patrol horse. He is brave, sure footed, patiently stands rein on mane and loves being out in nature. He will also stand calmly to be mounted from the ground, a rock, a log and yes, even the scary mounting block! He is both willing and a quick study. Torgard can be kept out in a herd or in a stall with no trouble. He has proven to be middle to low end of the pecking order out on pasture. He loads and unloads from the trailer with ease. As much patience as this sweet horse has, when it comes to getting a trim from the farrier, he requires a little help and understanding. He is never rude, but struggles sometimes to find his balance – however, he has shown great progress in this area! This guy is an easy keeper that requires no maintenance and is currently on a forage only diet. He sells sound, UTD on vaccines and has freshly floated teeth. PPE welcome at buyer’s expense.
